Okay, I got an aircheck from my buddy Mike Workman who got it from Adam Greenburg, and though I can stsay that while this stations music sullection rules, the promos suck! And sound rude to me. "Playing what we want"? Unless something has chhchanged in the liners... My airchecks are dated 1/4/2004.
Anyone agree? John PS: This is the only station I've heard with "Get This Party Started" by Pink with the word "ass" in it. wouldn't fly in the US.
canada's obviously got different rules on what's airable. I forget what the equivalent to the FCC is over there.
It's the CRTC (Canadian Radio and Telecomunications Commission). Basicly, as long as nobody complains, they won't bother investigating. The Edge (toronto rock station) used (maybe still does?) to run a contest called "how fucked up are you?" on-air. However, Canadian stations aren't allowed to run most American talk shows (Dr. Laura, Howard Stern, Rush, to name some). I think it's because we're much much much more sensative about hate and discriminatory speech. Notice that the US has many Christian radio stations, Canada has three that I know of. Toronto has no Christian station, listen to WDCX (New York) and you'll see that there promos are obviously marketing to Torontonians who get them via cable.
Jack FM is just...strange. They seem to be becoming quite popular, though. I think it's that they're playing what most people want to listen to. The promos reflect a (false) air of independence that makes people feel like they're not listening to content copied from a big media giant. Ironic as I believe jack is owned by Rogers Communications, one of the largest media giants in Ontario. Someone want to clarify this for me? I have no idea where to look up something like that. I'd like to know if jack fm is something real or another Rogers attempted con.

We have a Jack FM here in Salt Lake. It kicks ass! I even listen to songs I don't like to much just to see what they will play next. I will say the person who dose the voice overs has an interesting voice. It seems to stick with you through out the day. Another complant I have about Jack FM is that they don't tell you the name of the songs. I know it is audomated. However, we have a station that is audomated here in Salt Lake, and there is a computer voice that tells you the name of every song that has just played. Other then that, I like Jack FM a lot. That is now my favorate radio station in the Salt Lake aeria. BTW, channel 25 on XM is similer to Jack FM. Not intirely, but similer.
